Battery-Powered Transfer Cart: Lithium Battery or Lead-Acid Battery?

Battery-powered electric transfer carts can use different battery technologies depending on working frequency, budget and charging requirements.

Lead-acid batteries remain a practical solution for many conventional industrial applications. They are mature, relatively economical and suitable for transfer carts that operate periodically during a working shift.

Lithium batteries can offer several advantages where operating frequency is higher. These may include faster charging, lower maintenance requirements and greater usable energy density.

Battery selection should not be based only on battery type.

Manufacturers should also consider:

  • Vehicle payload
  • Motor power
  • Daily travel distance
  • Continuous working time
  • Charging opportunities
  • Ambient temperature
  • Required battery life

For customized electric transfer carts, battery capacity should be calculated together with the vehicle’s drive system rather than selected separately.
